The written exam for the post of Sub-Assistant Engineer at Bangladesh Railways, conducted under the Public Service Commission (PSC), has been canceled nearly five months after it was held. The PSC announced the decision on Monday, citing the need for "greater transparency" following allegations of a question leak.

Official Announcement

In a press release, PSC spokesperson SM Matiur Rahman confirmed that the Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) exam, conducted on July 5, has been annulled. The rescheduled exam is set to take place in March 2025 at a convenient date, which will be announced later through the PSC's website and media outlets.

Background

The July 5 examination was conducted to fill 516 Sub-Assistant Engineer positions at Bangladesh Railways. Allegations of question leaks surfaced shortly after the test, leading to a report aired by Channel 24 on July 7. Subsequently, law enforcement arrested 17 individuals, including five PSC officials, in connection with the scandal.

Former PSC Chairman Sohrab Hossain had earlier remarked that prompt reporting of any irregularities could enable immediate remedial action. However, the late emergence of these allegations limited the scope for timely intervention.

This decision reflects PSC's commitment to maintaining fairness and credibility in its recruitment processes while ensuring transparency in future examinations.
